Restorative Bodywork for Women with Anxiety

Therapeutic & Thai Massage in Manayunk

Welcome!

My name is Abby Mayer and I am the owner and sole licensed massage therapist at Mosaic Massage. In my practice I believe that people are more than a collection of muscles, bones, and connective tissue. As such, my work is primarily aimed to address stress and anxiety reduction. Massage can be a great way to regulate your nervous system and address both the physical and emotional facets of wellbeing, allowing you to show up fully and live a balanced life.

I strive to provide a safe space for women and LGBTQ+ folks navigating stress and anxiety.

I offer a combination of Therapeutic and Thai massage techniques in my sessions to help you move more freely in your body and manage any pain you might be experiencing. I make a point to work slowly and intentionally in order to build trust and encourage deep relaxation. It is my goal for you to feel as comfortable and secure as possible. Please don’t hesitate to let me know your preferences, so that I can tailor your session and ensure that you get the most out of your massage!

How can massage help manage stress & anxiety?

Massage can help to regulate your nervous system when you are experiencing stress or anxiety, and it can also help to reduce the amount of overwhelming episodes you experience when you receive massage on a regular basis.

  • We lived in a touch deprived society before the COVID. Now, three years in, many people are struggling without adequate social interaction and access to safe, non-sexual touch. In addition to producing endorphins, massage can also lower cortisol levels.

  • If you struggle with anxiety, you’re no stranger to overwhelming intrusive thoughts. While it’s not always possible to completely clear your mind during a massage, engaging all of your senses (safe touch and heat therapies, aromatherapy, hot tea & chocolate, aesthetically pleasing space, calming music) can help to distract your mind and pull you out of circular thinking patterns.

  • When we are feeling stressed or anxious it can be hard to turn our brains off at the end of the day. Not getting enough sleep can make matters that much worse. Massage shifts our nervous system from the “fight or flight” response into “rest and digest” mode, and makes falling and staying asleep easier.

  • When you feel overwhelmed by life, having a supportive safe space that you can retreat to - free from judgement and obligation of any kind - can be very comforting. Sometimes our repetitive thoughts and behaviors can be reinforced by the environment we are in, and changing our surroundings can help break the cycle.
